Global Shading Day is a special event declared by the European Shading Organisation (ES-SO), marking the beginning of spring when the days have equal daylight and darkness. The primary goal is to educate people about the benefits of using smart solar shading for our comfort and wellbeing, our savings and the environment.
Every year on March 21, Global Shading Day aims to emphasize the environmental and economic advantages of shading solutions. Across Europe, various retail points specializing in smart solar shading products will offer insights into the advantages of shading, contributing to the broader awareness campaign.
As our world gets hotter, buildings in Europe are feeling the heat more than ever. Experts say that by 2050, we'll need 30% more air conditioning.
Do you know that smart solar protection can:
"Buildings in Europe consume 40% of our energy and contribute to 36% of greenhouse gas emissions. Smart solar shading can reduce cooling energy use by 60% by 2050. It's time to prioritize solar shading to combat overheating and pave the way for a sustainable future" - Anders Hall, Président ES-SO.
Smart solar shading solutions act as big umbrellas for buildings! They contribute to climate resilience by keeping us cool without high energy consumption and unnecessary use of artificial light.
They are divided into external systems such as awnings, pergolas, vertical blinds, roller shutters, external venetian blinds and internal systems such as venetian blinds, roller blinds, roman blinds etc. They can be manual or automatic equipped with sensors (smart systems).
Solar shading integrated into a building management system manages heat and light in an intelligent way and are effective in reducing the energy consumption of buildings.
Sun protection is now a key element in the design of sustainable buildings. It helps to reduce energy consumption by decreasing the use of heating, air conditioning and artificial lighting. It plays an equally important role in the comfort and well-being of the building’s occupants, offering thermal protection, control of natural light and transparency at the same time.
In response to these priorities, Mermet offers a range of sun protection fabrics recognised for their thermal and optical performance in both indoor and outdoor applications.
